 | The ancestors of this race lived two thousand year ago in Tibet. The race was bred former in the monasteries. The Lhasa Apso stood high in aspect and never became sold. There also where dogs, that served as a talisman, a lucks bringer that will hold wicked minds persons on a distance: The Lhasa Apso is the dog that the Dalai Llamas of Tibet has given at the emperors as present.
| | The race existed already for centuries in the highlands of Tibet and sales representatives took the Lhasa Apso with them to Europe. Lhasa Apso means 'as a goat' and possibly the task of these dogs consisted of the guarding and protecting of the goats in Tibet. Another meaning of 'as a goat' would be that the dog is hairy as a Tibetan goat. However there is also said that the dog is called 'Abso Seng Kye' in Tibet, what means barking lion. Probably this race is arise through crossing the Tibetan terrier and the Tibetan spaniel. In 1929 the race was exhibit the first time in England. Sherpa Tensing(one of men that the Mount Everest controlled as first) received in 1948 two Lhasa's as gift of the monastery Ghanghar in Tibet. How the race arise is, is not totally clear, it is certain that the Lhasa is an pleasant dog in house. The only disadvantage: the dog is suspicious opposite strange people. It is a fantastic humans dog. His shoulder height amounts 24.5 cm. Once a Lhasa always a Lhasa! |
